Many restaurants pay their servers or wait staff below minimum wage. The are supposed to make up the diferance if the server don't average minimum wage between tips and a small hourly wage during a work week. Instead they change the tips claimed by the worker, so that it reflects minimum wage despite the worker.
If you are a server in a low business restaurant, I would check the amount of tips you see on you payroll check vs what you really made. You want the paid difference and you don't want to pay taxes on something you didn't make.
