I have written three manuals so far, the first with two editions. It was the beginner's guide to WordPress, which I would like to rewrite soon. I then wrote a manual on humorous comics, which should be revised, and one on blogging, which is no longer worth revising (read: I will make a different version). This post was created in response to the request of a friend who was commissioned to write a manual and would like to know where to start. A manual is a book When I had the first idea of writing a manual, I immediately thought that a manual - or guide, it doesn't matter much - is still a book, therefore it should not be approached as a simple article, but must be designed in every detail.
A manual cannot be written in one go , in Phone Number Data my opinion, because it is a job that requires good and functional organization of the contents. As far as I'm concerned, a novel shouldn't be written in one go, but in fiction there are different opinions. A manual, however, must guide the reader along a path, so we must understand what to insert first and what is best to read afterwards. Define the reader When I wrote my guide to WordPress, I immediately had my readers in mind and in the title of my manual it was clear who they were: A Guide to WordPress for Beginners . My reader was the beginner, someone who was approaching WordPress for the first time.
Why is it so important to understand the readers of our manual? Because they influence the entire communication of our text . An Advanced Guide to WordPress , for example, could not be read by beginners, because they would understand almost nothing. In fact, from my guide, I had to exclude some topics, such as advanced sidebar customizations or page templates or even how to create a WordPress template from scratch, concepts that would only be clear to an expert user. Define the purpose of the manual The objective of the manual is related to the reader .
